If you are setting up a new company, there will no doubt be many things to think about. Perhaps furthest from your mind will be things like data protection. However, it is important to be aware of the legal requirements placed on your company to ensure that you are not subjected to unexpected fines or legal action.
One of those legal requirements is the proper use of data, including its protection. More detailed information and answers to your questions can be found in our Data Protection FAQ, the information on this page is dedicated to helping your meet the requirements placed on you by the Data Protection Act.
The Data Protection Act 1998 covers the collection and use of information, including governance surrounding its retention, disclosure, use and destruction by companies and individuals. Most, if not all businesses will be involved in activities which encompass the collection of information of one sort or other for various reasons. Whether its collecting customer information to ship products out to them, taking their credit card details to take payment or even monitoring your premises with CCTV. All, and more, are deemed to come under the remit of data protection. Even the collection of data about employees is covered by the act.
The result is simple, you will be expected to put in place measures to properly follow the rules laid down by the Data Protection Act (covered in our Data Protection FAQ) and to register with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
The Company Warehouse has noticed the difficultly that some companies have had in notifying the Information Commissioner. Due to the fact that most people starting a new company are not fully versed in the data protection act, they are not aware what areas of their business are covered and which are not.
Our low cost service means that all you have to do is fill out a simple questionnaire and our professional legal team will complete the application on your behalf. You will be required to pay the £35 registration fee and ensure that you renew annually but otherwise we take the pressure of you by ensuring proper registration and notification of the Information Commissioner.
