The Official List refers to those public limited liability companies which are 'listed' or 'quoted' on The Stock Exchange. Companies on the Official List are subject to the on-going requirements of the Financial Services Authority called The Listing Rules.
In general, only large public liability companies which gave traded for at least 3 years can apply to be added to the Official List and trade its shares on The Stock Exchange.
